    Prof. Nikolaus Amrhein works in the field of plant biochemistry and physiology, a discipline which analyzes and aims to find causal explanations for the processes of life and is mainly concerned with regulatory and control processes in complex living systems.

    Prof. Klaus Apel is concerned with plant genetics, especially with the identification of genes that may improve the performance of crop plants. To achieve his research goals, he mainly uses methods of classical genetics and molecular biology.

    Prof. Nina Buchmann is professor of Grassland Science at the ETH Zurich. Her main research interests include ecosystem carbon dynamics under changing climatic conditions, biodiversity, ecosystem functions and services, as well as sustainable resource use. Apart from methods of classical ecology, she uses stable isotopes to achieve her research goals.

    Prof. Enrico Martinoia is head of the Department of Molecular Plant Physiology at the University of Zurich. He is investigating cluster roots, a characteristic of members of the Proteaceae and of several other plant species that are adapted to habitats of extremely low soil fertility.

    Prof. Christine Müller is concerned with community, food web, pollination, and behavioral ecology, as well as with population and conservation biology. Currently, she is engaged in different research projects, for example, investigating fungal endosymbionts and insect food web dynamics.

    Prof. Christian Körner is interested in alpine plant ecology, questioning the common use of the terms 'stress' and 'limitation' in connection with plants native to "inhospitable" regions. Furthermore, he is engaged in research on the consequences CO2 enrichment has for plants. Based on the example of "Lothar", he has also studied the connection between wood quality and storm damage risk.

Currently, he is heading a team interested in the physiology and diversity of ectomycorrhizal fungi and their impact on forest biodiversity. Furthermore, he studies the chemical sense of plants, in particular, the perception and transduction of elicitor signals in plants.
